- Teaching kids in East LA was supposed to pay for my R & R band's rehearsal space. It turns out the kids were way more fun than screaming into a microphone. We got to do all my favorite things: sing, role play, paint, do experiments (the more goo the better), design math games, read and write. After 23+ years in the classroom and raising a couple kids of my own, I decided to write Grade by Grade: Excellent Elementary Education Made Easy.
